Hidden beneath the bustling commercial streets of Medan, The Basement Neon Nectar & Note Medan is a cutting-edge contemporary jazz club that collides with striking cyberpunk visual aesthetics. It offers a gritty yet highly sophisticated underground escape, catering to audiophiles and urban creatives who crave live instrumental mastery wrapped in a futuristic, neon-drenched atmosphere. It is a bold redefinition of the classic live music venue, trading vintage, smoky nostalgia for an unapologetically modern, sensory-rich urban experience.
The architectural layout fully embraces its subterranean nature, utilizing raw, exposed concrete walls and heavy steel pillars, entirely illuminated by vivid, interwoven strips of magenta, cyan, and electric blue neon. To accommodate the dynamic, sprawling setups of contemporary jazz ensembles and their elaborate visual projection mapping, the spatial design was carefully drafted. The performance area is engineered precisely so the stage spans the full 16-meter width of the room, ensuring that every brass section, rhythm player, and digital artist has the space to command the room, providing the audience with an immersive, wall-to-wall visual and auditory spectacle in the low-ceilinged bunker.
The culinary offering features elevated, avant-garde interpretations of Medan’s fiercely bold and diverse street food culture. Patrons can enjoy bite-sized, modernist takes on rich, heavily spiced local dishes and perfectly charred seafood, designed for easy, elegant consumption in the dark, lounge-style seating. The bar, representing the “Nectar,” operates as a futuristic mixology laboratory. Bartenders craft visually stunning cocktails utilizing edible luminescence, clarified tropical juices, and premium spirits, resulting in brightly colored, complex drinks that practically glow under the ultraviolet and neon lights of the club.
As the night deepens, the “Note” takes center stage, and the chaotic energy of the city above melts away. The musical programming strictly features live, experimental jazz—ranging from high-tempo hard bop infused with electronic synthesizers to smooth, mesmerizing acid-jazz grooves. The acoustic treatment of the basement is flawless, trapping the rich, walking basslines and sharp trumpet blasts within the space to create a deeply absorbing soundscape. It is a highly energetic yet intimately focused nocturnal haven where the city’s night owls can lose themselves entirely in the rhythm and the glowing, kinetic visuals until the early hours of the morning.
